Dr. James and Monica Lindgren are the Founders of Window of Hope. Known to many as simply “Doctor Jim”, he felt an early call to preach the Gospel at the age of 8 while attending a church service in Olympia, Washington. Yet Jim always maintained a keen interest in medicine and science as well. It wasn’t until his sophomore year of college, while studying in the basement of his college library, that Doctor Jim finally grasped what he felt was God’s calling upon his life: to live and share the Good News of the Gospel message, but to do so using the practical and compassionate platform of medicine.
Thus began a journey to complete College, Bible College, Medical School, Internship and Residency. After completing his medical training in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, Doctor Jim practiced in a small town type Family Clinic in Surprise, Arizona. This was followed by training and practice in Emergency and Disaster Medicine.
Dr. Jim went on his first medical mission trip to Creel, Mexico in 1990. There he saw the great need of others and fell in love with caring for the poor and those at risk. Numerous other trips followed and through his experiences and noting the limitations of some groups, he felt motivated to found an organization that could serve others using best practices and the highest quality of care.
Window of Hope was thus born from a vision to use the platform of medicine and humanitarian relief to love people and to provide a practical demonstration of Christian love. In so doing, Window of Hope strives to provide the absolute best “product” we can to those we serve. It is Window of Hope’s policy to never use expired medications or to give less than our best to those in need.
Monica Lindgren grew up in San Jose, Costa Rica and worked for years as a short-term mission field facilitator for Christ for the City in her home town. She has a passion to love others and her Spanish language skills and cross-cultural expertise has been an invaluable asset to Window of Hope. Dr. Jim and Monica met during the first Window of Hope medical outreach in Costa Rica. They have been pursuing the work as a team ever since.
Through the dedication of our volunteers, prayer and financial supporters, we have been able to see Window of Hope grow from infancy to a solid and well-respected charitable organization. We are literally touching thousands of lives each year all over the world.
